Centerpiece is geared up for Graduates and Father’s Day.

While Father’s day is late this year (June 21^st), graduations began in early May and will continue through late June.

For the graduating ladies, as always, Centerpiece has its unique collection of hand made jewelry and accessories. The collection is creative and youthful. Spotlight: Maggie Bags

When we recycle, the “Greenest” option of all is to create something new from something that is not being used. This diverts usable products from our landfills and saves the resources needed to make new materials.

The world wide demand for automobiles has left behind an abundance of surplus man-made materials. Each year millions of yards of seat belt webbing are rejected for the slightest color variation, making the strap useless to the auto maker. Originally designed to be used as the life saving seatbelt in your car, this polyester material is of the highest quality and made to last.

Maggie bags give new life to the unwanted fabric by creating a beautiful line of sophisticated handbags.

Spotlight: Orna Lalo

Many years ago, Orna Lalo (www.ae-imports.com) started making things that made her happy. She created handmade designs inspired by fun and light that are unique, bold and uplifting. The material she uses is a high quality resin which is selected for its light weight durability and versatility.

People ask Orna what inspires her creations. This is her answer. “It is all this, all the dresses I have wanted to wear. Everything I always wanted to be. My dream that one-day I will stand on a big stage and I’ll be a singer. When I design, I try to capture that feeling of longing”.

Orna turns everyday objects and memories into a designed piece, then another and another until an entire collection is created. Color plays a major role and combined with unique shapes and textures inspired by the beauty of nature, the outcome is an original form of artistic expression. The textural interplay of translucency and opaqueness and a daring range of colors bring to mind the innocence and optimism of childhood.

Over time Orna’s horizons have expanded as reflected in her dynamic creations. New designs are evolving and becoming part of the Lalo line. Orna is accompanied by a talented team, which has come together over the years.

Orna graduated in Art and Fashion Design from the Shenkar College of Engineering and Design in Israel and has been creating her designs for over 20 years. She is one of Israel’s most distinctive and imaginative artists. Starting from a small workshop in Israel, the company has expanded into a large production facility in Bulgaria providing employment for many people. A lot of the assembly is done piecemeal by woman who live in the surrounding villages, giving them an oportunity to care for their families while earning a living.

Orna Lalo’s designs can be found in museum and art gallery gift shops and clothing and gift boutiques around the world.

Spotlight: Danica Candles

Danica began dipping candles in 1980, after apprenticing with an uncle at his candle factory, in the lovely village of Karlebo Denmark. After returning to upstate New York he began making candles in a friends barn and circa 1810 schoolhouse.

In 1982 Danica Design moved to the coast of Maine. We then occupied three floors of a Victorian carriage barn and expanded our line of hand-dipped tapers. In 1991, we designed a building with candle making, retailing and architecture in mind, and moved to West Rockport. We added scented jar candles, votives, scented and unscented pillar candles, and tea lights to our line. In 1992, we were given the Commercial Building Award from the Camden Rockport Lincolnville Chamber of Commerce, and in 1995 the Retailer of the Year Award from the Maine Merchants Association.

We use a blend of beeswax and other premium waxes in our tapers. No lead wick or animal by products are used. All of our candles are solid color and long burning. Our scented products have fragrances throughout.

Spotlight: Blackthorne Forge

Blackthorne Forge is owned and operated by Vermont blacksmith Steven Bronstein He and his helpers have been creating functional and sculptural ironwork for over 25 years.

His designs strive to blend the primitive charm of ironwork with the energy and interest of more contemporary design.

Clocks, vases, bookends, floor lamps, sundials, garden sculpture and fountains are just a few of the objects for which Steven has sought to blend the functional with the sculptural.

Relying on the qualities that make iron such a beautiful material, Steven’s pieces are both delicate and rugged.

Blacksmiths have a three thousand year tradition that has changed and grown with the ages. This capacity to adapt and evolve with the changing designs of the day is the blacksmith’s greatest strength.

Just as the hot metal twists and bends to create beauty, so does the craft of blacksmithing itself. Steven celebrates this aspect of his art and looks forward to all of its possibilities.
